Hi all,
Today I'm gonna talk to you about the octo softbox. It's a really fun to use tool. It creates a semi-round catch light in your subjects and lights a big like a spot would like you.
I see it as a compromise between a beauty dish and a rectangular softbox. You can see an exemple of what can be achieved here:
This was taken with a 5D body, EF 85mm at f11 lens, and a White Lightning X1600 with 120cm Aurora Softbox.
A octobox looks like this:

Have fun!

Hi Julien
(I noticed you follow my blog :)
I bought a Lowel Ego softbox for my food photography (mainly because it's compact and easy to afford) but it really doesn't seem to do the job, even with a reflector. The photos are much better than with tungsten lighting, but still . . . not quite up to snuff (see here, for example).
Your portrait shot looks great, but I'm not about to go unloading $600 for a pro softbox. I thought perhaps TWO Lowel Egos might be better than one. What do you think?
Great photos, by the way, Julien!
Hi Nick,
The exemple you showed me looks not bad at all but I really think your idea of making the same shot with 2 flashes on both side of the product would have made the shot a lot better.
By having two light sources, you reduce the shadows in the picture, which is what might be bothering you without knowing.
Also what reflector are you using? A small one? what color too? White might not be enough, you can try silver. Or just try to put it closer to your product? It seems like there is only one light in the picture you showed me.
Try that and give me news! :)
